An enquiry to E.S.O. students says working with laptops says that most of them do not like digital books.

In 2009, a plan of digitalization started in Catalonia. Since then, there have been many opinions for and against it. But these opinions were always the teachers'. Students' vision stayed in shadow. So, María Teresa Xanxo, teacher of Technology and Natural Sciences at Instituto Joan Miró, in Cornellá de Llobregat, decided to know what 153 of their students do with laptops, how their study habits have changed and what advantages they get. This teacher designed an enquiry for the First, Second and Third groups of E.S.O., containing 18 very thoughtful questions,
as “Do you connect Facebook in class?” Most students answer “No”, but to this “What about your classmates?” they answer “Yes, they do”.
In general, the E.S.O. inquiried students prefer study with paper books rather than with a digital book on the computer, although they give importance to the usage of new technologies.
Among the disadvantages they find to study an exam with laptops, is that the screen is too small, and it is more uncomfortable to study or do their homework. They cannot underline anything or do summaries. They also say that in many occasions they cannot connect due to technical problems, and they point the slowness in charging digital books.
So, they combine the digital book with notebooks and workbooks.
They find it positive that they can print things in PDF. One of the students said that he can connect from anywhere, and he doesn´t have to carry a heavy backpack full of books. Many of them find it very interesting.
